How to hide the Red Disc Seal under the spout

FAQ

Q. Pipe is too large for the disc or there is a fitting at pipe’s end

Answer

Red Disc Seal has a solution.

We offer a Disc and an O-ring set for a larger diameter pipe, RDS-G. Additionally, Red Disc Seal offers a split version disc, RDS-CS,  for installations where there is a fitting at the end of the copper pipe. Click below to see our video.

Q. Can I cut the Red Disc Seal, RDS-C8, to make it fit better?

Answer

Red Disc Seal, RDS-C8, is made out of ABS plastic and it is a solid disc, therefore, yes. You can cut the disc to make it fit the back of the spout you are using. Click below to see our video showing how this is done.

How to Cut RDS-C8

Q. Spout does not cover the disc completely

Answer

In most cases the tub spout is in to main pieces, inner sections and the outer shell. The inner section is adjustable. By adjusting the position of the inner section the cavity under the back of the spout is deep enough to house the Red Disc Seal which is about 5mm thick (thickness of 3 quarters stacked on top of each other). How to Adjust the Spout

Q. Spout does not cover the disc completely and it does not have a sperate inner section

Answer

In very rear installations when the spout does not cover the disc and it does not have an inner adjustable section, please consider the following:

1. Use silicone caulk to cover the gap. For example, GE’s tub and tile silicone caulk is recommended for gaps as wide as 1/4 inch (0.25 in). The thickness of the Red Disc Seal, RDS-C8, is 5mm (0.20 in), which is less than 1/4 inch.

2. If closing the gap with caulk is not your preferred method, please consider using a "Tub Spout Ring". It is a decorative piece that fits behind the tub spout (sold on-line and at Home Depot), picture attached for your reference. Click below to see our video.

3. If options 1 & 2 are not desirable and;

a.    There is at least about 1/8” gap all-the-way-around between the pipe and the wall and;

b.    There is at least a 3mm (thickness of 1 nickel and 1 dime stacked on each other) gap between the wall and back of the spout,

please contact us and inquire about RDS-C6. RDS-C6 is thinner and reason for this thickness reduction is that part of the disc sits INSIDE the wall, hence the 1/8” required gap all-the-way-around between the pipe and the wall.

4. Finally, if options 1-3 will not work for you, please consider using a spout that has an adjustable insert, such as Delta brand or Danco brand.
